Catch up part 2

So! Now class stuff.

English Comp 2: Writing About Literature
1) The room we're in is about a million degrees. This is probably going to be distracting.
2) This is another one of those classes where the prof is probably not much older than I am, which I still find slightly disturbing. He is so far funny and tends to make jokes out of things, which is an upside with a required class. He also has a REALLY LOUD VOICE. And it's a small room. I have a feeling I'm going to be in the habit of taking ibprofen after his classes. >_<
3) Lots of poetry on the syllabus. Ungh. I've never been much of a fan of poetry with a few exceptions. Probably why I don't like Shakespeare much either, he had that kind of poetic quality to his writing. But who knows, maybe this teacher will change my mind. ^_^
4) The first assigned story of the semester was one I'd had to read for Short Story, so I'd spent some time thinking about it previously. In the journal on it, I ended up going on a bit of a rant about rape culture (it was related, I promise). Heh. ^_^; Result:

And an A. Just sayin'.
5) However... I'm a little baffled by the assignment he just gave, not going to lie. He wants a one page essay. How do you even DO that? One page is like... an intro and MAYBE half of a body paragraph. I just. *sob* Help?

Western Civ 1
The man handed out an eight page syllabus. FOR A 100 LEVEL CLASS. This did not exactly give me warm fuzzies to begin with, though it turns out that he has a good sense of humor and really tries to make the material relateable. Also he has a list of extra credit available, most of which consists of movie watching and doing some form of write up about them. I can do that. Can't possibly hurt, right? We are also allowed a cheat sheet for tests, which is awesome since I'm good with concepts but tend to not do so well with remembering specific dates. So might not be TOO bad, minus the seven minute presentation at the end of the semester. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. :(

Biology: The Gene

I... don't know about this one yet. We'll see. :/ I think the worst part about this so far is my classmates. Holy SHIT, I'm going to hurt someone by the end of the semester. THE STUPID. IT BURNS. Some people seem to need simple things explained to them AT LEAST three times. Like... dude, this is a 100 level class, it's not rocket science. I'm a writer, not a scientist, and I get it. Can we PLEASE move on? Fucking Christ. And then there's a woman in this class that I had in Short Story last semester. The one that always wanted my help with everything. Uh... yeah. She's in this class. And in my lab. And I'm bad with confrontation, so I'm a little bit of a doormat, but she makes me want to punch kittens. We had a lab quiz yesterday, right? She was trying to get my attention and pointing to something on the test. The first time I ignored her. The second time, I'd handed mine in already, but I just shook my head and mouthed “I can't help you.” FUCKING SERIOUSLY? It's a test. I can't and I won't. It's bad enough that in the one lab (a basic “this is how you use a microscope” lab, certainly nothing difficult), I -barely- got my microscope work done because she kept needing help every fucking five seconds. But a TEST? GAH. -MY- test went fine, though. She was all happy as she was going through them, and she was like, “You guys studied! <3” I certainly won't disagree with a 100 to start the semester off with.

Gender and Lit
This was one of the two classes I was most looking forward to this semester, and I don’t think it’s going to disappoint. Prof seems cool. He also said that it’s actually kind of a Gender/Sexuality and Lit/Film plus some intro to gender studies, so that should be interesting. ^_^ Not too much to say about this one so far, actually.

Abnormal Psych
This was the other class I was really looking forward to. I… I don’t know. The prof seems really scatterbrained. Super nice and patient, but scatterbrained. And the first class she got on this whole tangent about being menopausal and I was like, dude, I do not need to know this within 20 minutes of having met you the first time, are you serious? But who knows. My Short Story teacher last semester made me go O_o at first too, and that ended up being one of my favorite classes all semester. (Not that it had much competition, but YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT I MEAN.) So maybe it’s not going to be all that bad. ^_^

Overall: Okay, so I guess I just have to deal with the fact that teachers are going to scare the hell out of me the first week, and I’m going to feel like I’m drowning for probably the first two or three weeks. It just feels like a lot. There are major papers for everything except Bio, which I was more or less expecting, but meh. *drowning in papers*
