Writer's Block: A real eye opener

I normally don't do these, you guys know that. However... in this case I'll make an exception, because while I know a lot of people would say things like the Bible or maybe Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or Twilight, I have an altogether different book in mind.

It's called Am I Blue? Coming Out From the Silence, edited by Marion Dane Bauer, and I honestly think it should be required reading for everyone in high school, maybe even middle school. It's a collection of stories about sexuality- questioning it, coming to terms with it, accepting it, and how people treat you because of it. If you're gay or bisexual, you can relate to at least one of the stories in this book. If you're straight, then maybe you'll get some insight into people that aren't and what it's like for us. There's a saying that goes something like "We're afraid of what we don't understand, and we hate what we fear." Maybe if the general population read books like this, books that promote understanding, there wouldn't be so much homophobia out there. Okay, that's probably being a bit optimistic, but nonetheless. There are some amazing stories in here and I encourage everyone to read it, straight or gay, if you haven't already.

(I will still be doing the "official" NaBloPoMo entry later, at least that's the plan, but I wanted to do this. If nothing else, I don't have to sweat it if I don't get the other done by midnight, right? ^_^;;;)

NaBloPoMo Day Seven

Day 7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?

Assuming I'm at home, yes, I generally listen to music. I try to have a playlist put together that reflects the character I'm writing or the mood I'm trying to set. If I'm looking for something more generic, classical is a nice thing to have in the background. Music is just... it helps me write, it helps with IDEAS to write about. Music pings me so hard for bunnies it's not even funny... whether it's original or fanfiction. If I'm having a hard time coming up with something, usually listening to some music helps.

As far as specific songs, it's honestly been a long time for many of them and I don't remember. Brian is definitely "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, I'm not even sure how that happened. I have a couple of boys who I think about any time either "Face Down" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus or "Do You Remember" by The Summer Obsession come up. Other than that, I can't really think of anything at the moment.
