April 27th, 2014 08:52 pmSorry, guys. RL ate me. XD (And will continue to eat me for another few weeks, not gonna lie.) As always, you're better off checking tumblr (same name) these days if you want updates more than once every month or two. <_< I actually hadn't realize it had been that long. Anyway, so let's take care of the updatey stuff really quickly, shall we?
( A little rambly, but not too bad, considering )

Dear Not Prime Time Author,
You. Are. Awesome. <3 Just for participating, but also for coming to find this, possibly multiple times because I didn't have this done before assignments went out. Sorry about that.
So if you don't know me- I'm Ver. Hi! *waves*
Generally, I'm a pretty easygoing kind of fic reader. I read a lot of different kinds of things, so mainly, just write what makes you happy and that you can have fun with. Fics are always better when you can tell the person writing it enjoyed it. :) (That being said, I would ask that you check out the “do not want” section before you do that, just in case.)
I know this letter may look a little scary at first glance, but just keep in mind that I'm long-winded. XD Everything here minus the DNW is just suggestion and idea. You can honestly ignore most of this and do whatever your little heart desires, and I encourage it if that's what you want to do.
Love,
Ver/verloren1983

The Direction of Fandom
February 6th, 2014 03:33 pm(for the December posting meme-
degrees - I'm almost done with this, I swear, you guys. XD)
Talk about the direction you see fandom going in (livejournal to tumblr, etc) and if it's a good or bad thing!
Oh man, I have so many mixed feelings on this. I think it's both a good thing and a bad thing. Say what you will about Tumblr, but it's a great way to pass things around- whether it be art or links or whatever. That can be really useful, ESPECIALLY for the fanart side of things... as long as people aren't assholes about sourcing stuff. On the other hand, I really don't like the de-centralization of fandom. I hate that everything is so split up now, between the people that are still clinging to LJ, the ones that have moved on to DW or even other sites, the Tumblr people, AO3... it's just too much to keep track of, and I feel like fandom as a whole is suffering for it. We're losing our identity. We're losing our fandom friendships and the bonds that we had- and I mean this as a whole, not one fandom in particular. A lot of fandom has moved to Tumblr, but it's really ridiculously difficult to have a conversation on Tumblr, so things get lost. I probably sound like the old fart wishing for the "good old days," and maybe to a point I am, but while all of these sites have their uses, I can't help but think that fandom is getting splintered because of it. So basically, it's a mixed bag as far as I'm concerned- some gems but mostly coal.
I'm not really sure what this means for the future of fandom. I see it being mostly a sharing culture without the discussion and fandom friends, and with a lot less feedback on work submitted- I'm talking about quantity vs quality here on that last one. Both AO3 and Tumblr encourage this. Unlike LJ or DW, where you HAVE to leave a comment in order to let the author know you liked it, on AO3 and Tumblr you can just leave a kudos or reblog it without any commentary. Now, I'm guilty of doing this myself, I'll admit. And to a point, it allows for more feedback, which is great. The problem is that it's a much lower quality than before. Okay, you liked it, but why? What worked for you, so I know to keep doing that? Kudos are great, don't think I'm bitching, but it doesn't even COMPARE to a great review in terms of encouragement, you know? It makes me sad. My first friend in fandom was through a comment she'd left on a fic I'd written- we got to talking, and she kind of shoved me into writing for
blind_go , and that was really the beginning of SO MUCH for me. Literally all my other friends in fandom came through BG. Without her prodding encouragement, I'm not sure I ever would've gathered up the nerve to even do BG. My point here is that at least to my mind, you get into fandom through conversations with people, and I'm just not sure how much that's really happening anymore. :/
(Oh yeah, if you have a question/topic/whatever for me, the original post is here!)

The best pairing of all time
December 9th, 2013 05:57 pm(for the December posting meme-
jet )
What is the best pairing of all time?
Oh man, this could be such a complicated question, but I'm going to answer it in two primary ways. First, I assume that when you say this, you mean "OTP of all OTP's"- I don't think it'll surprise anyone when I say that there's no contest on this one- Hikaru/Akira, hands down. Period. I seriously didn't even have to think about it. If some awful, evil person said I could only read or write one pairing ever ever again, I would choose them. Of course I would miss the others terribly, but that's why these questions are hard. The bottom line for me is that they are my favorite and they're the ones that I always go back to, over and over again.
The other way I can read this question has to deal with firsts, which brings us to Harry/Draco. Harry Potter was my first fandom, and they were my first OTP. It was them that led me (eventually) to anime- more specifically, Hikago- and it was a downhill slope from there. So you could possibly argue that Harry/Draco should be at the top of this list, since it's what started everything, if you really wanted to.

It's been a while again since I've written, so I figured I'd check in and let those of you who don't follow me in other places know that yes, I'm still alive. See? Alive. :D So what's been happening? A lot of work, a lot of procrastination. I spent the morning sorting out the (admittedly, all over the place) fantasy section of my e-book folder instead of trying to write a story that's due Tuesday. You know, the normal. Oops. XD I also don't have internet at home right now, which complicates matters. This got really ridiculously long, mostly because of the school sections, so I'm just going to section the school stuff off for you guys by cuts. Which I don't normally bother with, but, well... you'll see. XD
☁ In case you're in Hikago fandom and didn't see my spamming, there's a new blind_go mini round out- GO SIGN UP. NOW.
☁ The new Phoenix Wright came out a couple of weeks ago. I feel so behind- I only just barely started case 4. I have Thoughts on it, which are partially good and partially ragey, but I'll hold off on getting too into those until I actually finish the game. So far... it's not that different from the others, concept wise. I can basically boil everything down to a short list of "things I've learned from the Ace Attorney games"
1. Prosecutors get away with EVERYTHING.
2. Don't become friends with a lawyer ever- you'll eventually end up dead or falsely accused of a crime, probably murder.
3. LGBTQ people are ridiculous/offensive/disgusting/only good for comedic relief/figments of your imagination/terrible people/any combination of the above, depending on the particular plot device service they're providing at the time.
☁ Midterms grades were fine- 4.0 for the semester so far. As usual, I just need to keep it there. ajdklsajd.

August 1st, 2013 06:08 pm☁ Turned in BG. Managed to pull off two fics, somehow, I don't even know how that happened. It was originally all part of the same idea, sort of, but... eh, it's complicated. Anyway. I was Vanessa and wrote two Hikaru and Waya fics- one pointless gen and the other smut. *shrug* I was terribly obvious and didn't bother to hide it. I was hoping that the pairing would throw people off at least a little, but uh, I guess not. XD Guessing didn't turn out too bad, though! 5 out of a possible 8, which is my best showing BY FAR- I have been known to get zero right, after all. Of course, if I'd actually looked a little more closely at some of the hints posted later on, I would've realized that a couple of my guesses were obviously wrong, but whatever. XD
☁ Somehow got talked into trying Naruto again, but of course I was only 7 eps into it to begin with and that was ages ago, so I just started it over. It's. I dunno. Kind of obnoxious. I can see why I didn't really feel a push to continue it before.
☁ The book cataloging is getting ridiculous. I've been taking a break, so there's still everything on my bookshelf at this point plus what's in the closet and whatever else I find that I'm not seeing right now- but the manga should be done, anyway, minus the first 13 of Hikago. I'm up to a total of 174 books and not even close to done (we won't even discuss how much of that is manga). I think I have a problem, you guys. XD Also recently I had decided to try and organize my ebook folder, because that's a huge clusterfuck, and all I can really say about that is... holy GOD, why did I do that to myself? I don't even know how it got like that.
☁ Money stuff for school is mostly taken care of, I'm waiting for the last grant form to go through, but it's nothing that's a huge deal right this split second. Like I can pay my bill and stuff without it, anyway. Re: school stuff, now all I have to do is get my certificate of residence (I'd like to do that tomorrow, tbh), pay my bill (by the 15th, but would like to do it next week to get it done and over with), get my books, and figure out exactly where my classes are and how tight I'm pushing my transport time on a couple. So that's coming along nicely.
☁ As far as RL circumstances... not a lot has changed, for good or for bad, at this point. I've been taking a bit of a hiatus on the cleaning because I've basically felt like shit the last week (yay for being female- not), plus being distracted with other things, see next cloud bullet, but I'm hoping to get back on track in the next couple of days.
☁ So remember how my laptop was overheating and I wasn't sure if it was the heat or something else? It was something else. -_- After some investigation, I discovered that the fan was no longer working. I'm not comfortable taking apart the laptop, since I can't get to the fan without pulling apart the ENTIRE thing (which is stupid but whatever), and it's not worth paying Best Buy $200 bucks to put a new fan in a four year old laptop, soooooo as much as I didn't want to spend the money and didn't want Windows 8... I didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter. I bought a new one. XD I have named it Phoenix. :3 It was less than the previous one, under 400 before tax, so that wasn't bad. I've been super good about money over the summer, so I'm not going to beat myself up over spending the money or anything. Specs wise, I just wanted something that was at least as good as what I already had for relatively cheap, which was actually more difficult than you might think? Go figure. Sooooo I have another Toshiba- because fuck, I beat Haru all to hell and it still lasted four years, and above all else I did not want a Lenovo (very bad previous experience with IBM, and Kelly having to replace her Lenovo laptop TWICE since March does not help my opinion of them. I told her not to get a damn Lenovo. But nooooo, she didn't want to listen to me. Pfft.) Anyway. I still hate Windows 8, but I knew that already. Classic Shell makes it bearable, fyi if anybody on the flist ends up having to deal with this OS, though I still keep triggering stuff to pop up by accident. Grrr. The keyboard is pissing me off, at least until I get used to it. So there are minor frustrations with it, but that's true of any new device, especially with something like a laptop. Mostly I love it. It does what I need it to do (including connecting to the internet without a problem, which I was nervous about after the netbook), zips along speedily, and so far has handled everything I've thrown at it with grace. (It IS worth noting, though, that the "max temp" on Phoenix is significantly lower than it was on Haru- Haru's was 212, on Phoenix it's 194. Go figure.)
I think my favorite thing about it, though, is that it's a definite upgrade. I've said before that my laptop was hardly state of the art when I got it (and neither is this)- but you know that rating system Windows has? Old lappy was something like 3.3 or 3.5. This is 4.8. In both cases, the score is based off of the graphics card and everything else is AT LEAST a full point higher. When I turned on the Sims to double check that my saves would work, I was like, holy shit, they look like that? O_O It runs so much smoother now, without all the jerkiness and lag, and there's so much more detail. Like wow. Amazing.
Okay, I need to shut up and just post this already, so. Next time~!

July 20th, 2013 06:46 pm☁ BG- It's um, going. Sort of. There is a not even half baked idea, and there are words, at least? We'll see. <_<
☁ It's been BRUTALLY hot and humid for the last week or so, but thankfully it's about 15 degrees cooler today and the humidity is supposed to FINALLY break overnight, last I heard. Thank god. Seriously, the other day it was fucking 97 with a heat index of 106. And yes, I know to some people that's not a big deal, but I live in freaking upstate NY. IT'S A BIG DEAL HERE. When it's hotter here than in Miami? Or AUSTIN? There's something wrong. I saw a thing on facebook the other day where somebody was like, "I think NY weather is broken" and that about covers it. It was seriously hellish. Kelly went up to the boyfriend's house last night (she even tilted her fan towards me before she left, heh), so I took the opportunity to strip down to my underwear and slept that way. I woke up feeling nice and cool, it was GLORIOUS.
☁ Speaking of heat, my laptop has... not been dealing with it well. Like it turned itself off several times the other day because it was overheating. I'm not entirely sure whether it's the heat/humidity or whether it's something more serious, like the laptop is dying, but in the meantime I'm attempting to find my cooling mat and taking "keep temperature down" measures- blew out the vents/fan/everything I can get to, energy consumption is set to power saver, the battery has been taken out, have the vents pointed at my fan, and I'm trying to run as few things as reasonably possible. Right this split second it's running around 150, which is pretty normal, but again, that's with all that stuff going on AND it's cooler today, soooooo I dunno. I really don't want to buy a new laptop. :/ (Mostly I don't want Windows 8) It wouldn't be AS big of a deal, considering I have the netbook, but home internet hasn't worked on the netbook ever since the cable company changed our router box. :/ I copied a bunch of stuff to the external HD anyway, in any event.
☁ It's mostly been too hot to clean really, but I did get the giant pile of crap in front of the closet cleared out, so I can actually- gasp- get in it now. Shocking, I know. In theory, that should make it easier, but now that I don't have a clear directional goal (like "get to the closet"), I'm feeling a little lost. But I guess... as long as I keep chipping away at it, it doesn't matter, really.
☁ Anime: Not a whole lot happening there. I knew I'd burn myself out eventually, because that's what I -do-, and it seems like that's what's happened. I'm still watching the new stuff as it comes out (Free is still fun, Brothers Conflict is still terrible, Silver Spoon I haven't really made up my mind about yet), and I managed to watch another ep of Tsuritama (it's still weird), but that's really about it. But this is normal. I'll cycle through some other media for a while before I come back to inhaling anime again. ^_^
☁ I did watch a couple of episodes of Doctor Who, so I'm now a few episodes into series 5 now. After seeing a few episodes with 11... I think I like him. :D Also of interest- as 11, Matt Smith is incredibly dorky looking. And not in a good way. He's apparently had a haircut, and he doesn't even look like the same person. Turns out he's totally adorable in a cute nerdy sort of way! O_O *was not expecting that*
☁ Oh, and I played The Walking Dead special 400 Days thing (I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I purchased the download for my xbox, but I won't do that again for season 2- I just don't have the hard drive space on that machine. I'll have to wait on season 2 until they put a disk out. Sadface.) My overall reaction was that I wish they'd picked one or two characters and stuck with them, instead of introducing five in such a short time span. You didn't really get to know anybody, really- though I like what I saw of Wyatt and Russell. Of course, those were the two that decided to opt out at the end. Argh. >_< So I actually have to go through it again... which is okay, because I did some stupid ass shit with Wyatt anyway. Seriously. There's a point where you have the option to try and drag this half-dead guy back to your car or leave him to get eaten by walkers, and for some ungodly reason I was like, yeah, let's drag him. Kelly was watching me play and was like, ".....what are you DOING?" "I DON'T KNOW, OKAY?" Which I guess... is one of the most interesting things about the game, really, since they give you no time to think about your decisions- you just have to go on your gut instinct. I tend to not always think things through to potential consequences, and my decisions definitely tend to lean more towards mercy and helping whoever I can when possible. I'd give examples, but spoilers. :P Which... yeah, can result in some really stupid choices as far as keeping myself/my group alive and safe. Whoops? XD
And on that note, I may or may not lie down for a bit because I have a migraine that doesn't want to go away (usually only napping cures those), and then it's some grownup stuff like laundry and figuring out what to make for dinner, and cleaning. Hopefully working on/finishing this thing for BG. Maybe. XD

Maybe. XD

July 16th, 2013 11:40 am☁ Tonari- I can't decide what exactly is wrong with Haru, but he's clearly disturbed. I keep coming back to Bipolar and Conduct Disorder (the precursor to Antisocial Personality Disorder, but you have to be 18 to be diagnosed with that, probably because they want to make sure it's not just a rebellious phase before they label you with a basically untreatable disorder XD) Anyway, so I finished it. It's... okay? There were things that bugged me about it. I still think they would've been better off leaving it at two episodes and calling it good. I think the biggest thing for me, though, was that the characters felt lacking. I was missing something there, and I was actually way more interested in Natsume and Sasahara (background) than I ever was in Shizuku and Haru. And even then. Final MAL score: 6.
☁ I've started Tsuritama now. I've seen one episode, and my only reaction currently is basically: O_o Also watched the first ep of Silver Spoon that came out. It's interesting, I guess? Main character is kind of an idiot. I mean. Who doesn't know that chickens poop eggs? Seriously? What's he even doing there, and why doesn't he want to go home? I'm curious about these things. So yeah, it has my attention for the time being.
☁ I didn't really do anything productive Friday-Saturday-Sunday. Friday I went out for the day with my sister. It was hot and humid and gross. I mean, it was okay at first, but after a while I thought I was going to have a heat stroke. Like seriously, I looked like a tomato at one point and I wasn't sunburnt. But yeah. Otherwise, it was cool. We went to the museum and looked at their newest exhibit on the Civil War (and more accurately, New York's role in it), which was pretty damn cool. Had Thai food for lunch (omnomnom). Kelly got incense. We walked around A LOT. So I spent Saturday and Sunday recovering, basically, because I way overdid it (and might've actually had heat exhaustion, that would explain a lot. XD) Monday I did, at least, get those three garbage bags out of my room finally, and I did a cleaning session which produced another. Yesterday, I didn't get anything done again, but that was totally Kelly's fault because she was all, LET'S GO TO DENNY'S, SMOTHERED FRIES SMOTHERED FRIES SMOTHERED FRIES. Soooooo we went to Denny's, and walked around Target and the mall for a while. XD Needless to say, I'm done with Outside for a while except for when absolutely necessary.
☁ I might've gotten a little testy on Tumblr the other day after seeing a post that infuriated me, and went into a two part rant that was basically about how an atheist is not obligated to feel grateful for being given religious platitudes after a death/tragedy, and that doesn't make them an emotionless monster. Um. Yeah. <_< I've apparently been feeling ranty lately. I never did post that thing about TM I showed you guys last time, though, so at least there's that? XD
☁ Aaaand finally, before I forget to mention it- blind_go is back for a mini round! :D Here is info and the support thread. Write something if you can! I need to go bunny hunting...

Catch up part 1
February 6th, 2013 02:52 pm( As per usual, this has been sitting in a file for weeks. Whoops. )
I'll do another post in a minute with specific class stuff- hence the part 1, because I waited so long to post this that I felt it would be too ridiculous for one entry even under a cut- so if you're not interested in that, obviously feel free to skip. ^_^

May 12th, 2012 01:44 pmI'll be honest here, I haven't really been paying too much attention to LJ/DW- which mostly has to do with
blind_go and work kicking my ass, to be honest. ^_^; But eh. So what's up?
☁ AP form sent out. $25 is a little bit of an ouch just to get a score mailed out, but considering how much one class costs, it's a bargain. Once the school gets that, we'll see about changing the Sociology 100 to Social Psychology. ^^ Still need to call the doctor's office and have my immunization records sent out. Need to do that next week. >_<
☁ I feel like I should say something about Obama and his finally claiming his position for gay marriage. On one hand, yes, this is good. On the other, I have two reactions: one, it's about god damned time; and two, what is he going to DO about it? The announcement is clearly politically motivated, considering the timing, so I just worry that he's going to say this and then nothing is going to come of it. Aside from that, it's a big risk and I'm not convinced that it'll pay off. He may have just won Romney the election.
☁ There is apparently a Thai food place downtown I didn't know about. I've never had Thai food and I'm curious, so... hopefully soon I'll be able to go. Kelly likes this place, so that's saying something. We're trying to coordinate a day to go down when we both have off and it's not super crappy outside... which is more difficult than it sounds, lately. So we'll see. ^_^
( Under the cut is random gaming/fandom stuff~ )
...I really should start posting more so these don't get so ridiculous. Eh.

March 7th, 2012 02:53 am☁ Has anyone else been having issues with Google? I can't search, I can't watch Youtube videos, Gmail won't load, none of it. But the rest of the internet seems to be fine, and I can't find anything about it being down? ARGH. This has been going on for a few days now and I'm getting really frustrated with it. I even tried switching browsers and it was still a no-go- FF had been timing out, but IE flat out told me that Google didn't exist. O_o. So: I'm generally really bad at checking my gmail, but I do know that I have at least one conversation there that I need to deal with, but I can't get into it at all to make a response. I'm really sorry. XD My hotmail username is the same as my gmail? ^_^;;;
☁ FAFSA- done. I was going to do it last week, but procrastinated Tuesday and felt too crappy Wednesday to deal with it. Whoops. Was not as bad as I had been imagining- I could even import my tax returns right into it, which was a neat little trick. The two school applications are also submitted. Am currently trying to figure out if I can get my high school to send my transcript without having to call them. XD Edit: Sweet, I can zip them an e-mail. They ask for a name and address of the person they're sending them to, though, so does that mean I should have them send the transcripts to me and then mail them back out? That seems stupid. I'm confused.
☁

Just sayin'. We have been flirting with Death Note since last night for the number 11 animanga spot on AO3, and next is YiGiOh. Weee~ (Though I think DN might've cottoned on to what we're doing, looks like they're fighting us a little. GO GO HIKAGO!) Qem asked me to make a banner and very helpfully proved the YuGiOh pic. Didn't turn out half bad. Lish asked me to make an icon for her the other day, too. She does that on occasion and the request this time was super simple, just a crop and cleanup, but it's just kind of weird to get graphics requests all of a sudden. XD
☁ It's supposed to be GORGEOUS tomorrow- 55 and mostly sunny! Perfect day to walk to the library. :D I've been feeling kind of shut-in, so that will probably be helpful. Maybe I can even get through the rest of the first season of Doctor Who finally, since I seem to have a block about watching it at home for some reason. XD
☁ I am now about an episode and a half through Sherlock. It's an interesting take- Sherlock actually admits to being a sociopath (in the most condescending way possible, which is pretty damn amusing), so that's definitely a different spin on the character than I've seen previously. I'm still not understanding how everyone thinks that Benedict Cumberbatch is so hot- he's rather unfortunate looking, to put it nicely. I really don't get it. I can't even blame it on the lesbian thing, really- I can recognize and appreciate when a man is good looking. It doesn't make me want to have sex with him, but I see it. This guy? Nope. Not seeing it. Fandom baffles me sometimes.
☁ After talking with Ai, I finally decided I need to get my butt back in gear and at the very least keeping track of my food intake again. I've been maintaining (within a few pound range, of course) for long enough. On the upside- apparently I've been averaging around 1700 calories a day without even TRYING- that's maintenance for where I was when I checked. So not NEARLY as bad as the 2500-3000 I was imagining, eh? :D Sooooooo I've been working on food again and am really happy with the results. 5.4 pounds since the 20th, and 2.8 pounds just in the last week. I'm not trying to brag or anything, just... happy to get the ball rolling again. ^_^;;;

January 8th, 2012 02:22 am☁ For anyone into nail polish: Zoya has a fabulous promo going on until Monday, details here. I'm still trying to decide what I'm getting. It's so hard to choose! The two that have gone into my cart and stayed there, though, are Dannii and Suvi, so I'll definitely be getting those as the freebies.
☁ The last thing from Gamefly was Blue Dragon. The first thing I noticed was that it actually gives you a language option, so you can play it in the original Japanese with English subs. I wish more games would have that option- a lot of JRPG players would prefer it, actually. That being said, it was interesting, but I found this a bit clunky. You end up searching in every little corner, crevice, plant, etc. all the time for money and items... maybe this will be less of an issue later in the game when I'm assuming this stuff is more available, but to start with it was irritating. Battle animations were laggy and took WAY too long. I really disliked the character designs- very oldschool anime style in the worst way. It's certainly not a bad game- I would probably not have any problem buying it, just not at $20. Though I see you can get it for around $10 new on Amazon, including shipping. Now THAT'S more like it.
☁ Beyond Good and Evil arrived, which is awesome because I've wanted to play it for FOREVER. We shall see~!
☁ Posting fic on AO3 is going well- THERE IS FINALLY LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. It's probably still going to take me another week or so to finish, give or take, but eh. I don't write particularly long pieces, usually, but there's more of them than I ever realized. No wonder I've never successfully posted a proper mirror. ^_^; Qem has been going through and sticking a kudos on pretty much everything, which is really cool of her. I'm kind of in awe of it, actually- like I said, there's a lot of them. That takes a special kind of dedication. XD
☁ Anyone like wine? I'm looking for some suggestions possibly. Seems like it's been a thing lately, and as most of what I've tried is disgusting... thought maybe I'd try to get some opinions. :D I'd rather not do red wine, but I'll admit I'm biased. The one and only time I've had red, it tasted like cough syrup. Blech. My alcohol tastes tend to run very sweet, and wine is no exception. Hence, dry is not a good idea. SUGAR IS GOOD. Thoughts, anyone?
☁ Kind of weird- I took a guy's passport, right? Note that said guy was probably in his 40's, Asian. He looked at the passport frowning and said to his wife, "I look Korean." I probably had a dumbfounded look on my face, because his wife then smiled at me and said, "He's Indonesian." (Or whatever it was- I unfortunately forgot where she said his heritage was. FAIL. XD) I was just like, "Er.... O_o" Racism, yay! XDDD
☁ On a related note, I was watching a thing of Carlos Mencia's, and he had this to say about racism in America: "We just fight with each other because we've got nothing better to do and we like drama." AHAHAHAHAHA. Interesting take, I have to say.

December 9th, 2011 02:35 pm☁ I've been pretty MIA lately- sorry about that. With my sister visiting and family stuff and being sick and all of this crap, it's been kind of difficult to really sit down and get anything done. My already limited attention span has been pretty much zero lately. (I haven't even bothered attempting to read that last Eragon book, if that tells you anything. XD) I'm still sick, but it seems to be getting better, so. Things should be winding down back to normal. Hopefully. As normal as December gets, anyway.
☁ WANT. ;_; Money is a major concern, but hopefully they'll come up with a payment plan that I can live with. WHO IS GOING WITH ME, DAMMIT?
☁ Anyone have any experience with Zoya nail polish? I've been staring at the website for several days now and I can't decide whether it would be worth trying or not. They're expensive. :/ On the other hand, I did just spend $6 on a super glittery blue polish that I'm totally in love with (and actually kept on for about two days, which is a miracle), so really... it's not THAT much more, in the big scheme of things.
☁ I can has an AO3 account! I will probably not keep up with it, because I have a hard time posting crap to my freaking main writing journal much less anything else, BUT... it's another backup and maybe I will? ^_^;;; That and it will give my stuff some more exposure, since I'm uncomfortable pimping myself out in the comms when I post something. So... you know. I only have a few things up there so far though. I'm trying to not piss people off by flooding everything at once. XD
☁ Ended up making peanut butter frosting (don't ask)... ASDJKALDJSLA that shit is DELICIOUS. Now, I wouldn't use the frosting all the time, for the simple fact that I still hate making frosting. BUT. It is definitely easier than regular frosting, at least. No food coloring is needed, so that headache and mess is eliminated. Two- It came out perfectly mixed and fluffy with just a spoon and some stubbornness on my part. Read: no mixer required. Which is awesome, because while I'll use a mixer when I have to, I'd rather not. It tends to be messy. It probably could've been fluffier with the mixer, but I didn't really see the need. The only problem? Now I have all this freaking frosting in the fridge. UGH.
☁ Speaking of food, I purchased three new things to try: sweet potato fries, pesto sauce, and garlic hummus. So far, I've tried the pesto and the fries. The pesto is good- I wouldn't want a ton of it in a dish or anything, but it's yummy. The fries though? Weeeeeeeeird. :/ I haven't decided whether I like them or not. I ended up putting a crapton of salt and Old Bay on them and it was an improvement, but I don't know. The sweetness bothers me more than I thought it would.
( Rant brought to you by South Africa and condoms with teeth. Needless to say with South Africa lately, this could be triggery for rape. )
☁ I should probably do my school applications soon. *sob* SCARY! ........... Dear Self: You are being utterly ridiculous. You are applying to community colleges, not Yale. You'll be fine. No love, Ver.

So...

August 11th, 2011 04:11 am- Got my hair cut again after putting it off for a few weeks. It's the kind of short I've been trying to get and failing at (seriously, she used clippers on a lot of it XD) My mother's response to the haircut? "Why don't you just shave it off? You might as well at this point." ............................
*growl* Fuck you. Seriously. NOBODY ASKED YOUR GOD DAMN OPINION.
- Scored jeans at LB for 40% off, they're not flare or boot-cut, AND they're a size lower than what I got last time I bought jeans. Woo! I have no idea how I managed that, being that I haven't lost any weight and I'm not working out, so it's not like I've lost fat and gained muscle all of a sudden. Oh well. I'm certainly not going to complain. :D
- Also found volume 12 of Junjou Romantica, which I've been looking for. So! That one's totally caught up. \o/
- Level grinding in FFIII. What makes it suck even more than usual is that I'm kind of stuck where I am right now, due to story events, so I'm basically having to run up and down these stairs ad nauseum. UGH. Hopefully I can stop after one more level up and not get totally slaughtered by the boss.
- Apparently about a month ago, Konami put up a post on their Facebook group "What Konami game franchise would you love to see brought back?" I didn't read all 924 comments, but seriously? I did go 100 comments back, and all but TWO were along the lines of "SUIKODEN VI, DAMMIT!" *dies laughing* You think maybe they got the hint? Someone commented "Looks like Suikoden fans have made their own army now. :D" *dies more*
- Awesome video of Tom Felton on Conan- there was Harry/Draco discussion, and pictures! So funny, and he was so freaking cute when he literally turned PINK when they showed a couple of Harry/Draco photo manips. On the other hand, it did feel a bit strange having fandom acknowledged out of the blue like that, and on such a popular platform. And to think the actors actually read fanfiction and see fanart? Kind of like... er... what? O_o I don't know. It's a little too close to home for comfort. A great clip and interview, but just... made me feel a little like a bug under a microscope lens, if that makes any sense.

A long one~
August 3rd, 2011 09:32 pm☁ Sign ups for Round 12 of
blind_go are up. As is the support thread, which is almost empty and quite lonely at the moment. ;~; I have yet to do the rest of the stuff I owe from the last round. *headdesk* And let's not even talk about the rest of the crap I owe. SOB. I did get pinged for a bunny. Unfortunately, I can't use it for any of the owed prompts. I think. *stares at list* Hrm. I'll have to think about that. Might look in the bunny folder too and see if there's anything in there I can work with. Probably not- most of the stuff in there is in the "evil bunny" category, hence it being shoved away in a folder that I try not to look at. :/
☁ Good news: The pendant I ordered came in! It's awesome!
Bad news: Guess what doesn't fit the leather cord I already had? Yeah. The loop at the top is pretty small and it can't get past the metal bits of the cord. I did manage to scramble up a chain for it, and that will work as a temporary solution, but meh. The chain turns my skin green, so I'll have to come up with something.
All in all, I really have to pimp this site. First of all: Five dollar coupon! They have lots of stuff (not just dragons), from pagan jewelry to crosses, celtic to kanji. They shipped SUPER FAST- I ordered on July 29th, but it was around 11pm, so really July 30th. I got it today. Five days. And the pendant is really amazing looking. Even Kelly said it was gorgeous- shocked the hell out of me because she's not into dragons AT ALL. It really is a beautiful piece and I'm quite enamored with it.

☁ Scored a gorgeous Orly nail polish at work for $1.75 (they're normally almost $8). It's called Royal Velvet and is a bluish purple depending on the light. Totally loving it, which is both a good and a bad thing. Good because yay polish! Bad because it's on clearance, so obviously we won't be carrying it anymore. But if it hadn't been on clearance I wouldn't have bought it anyway- I refuse to spend that much on nail polish EVER. I don't care how pretty it is. That being said, this is my first "higher end" nail polish (highest I ever went before was Sally Hansen, usually I buy NYC kind of stuff)... I can't say that I can really tell the difference. Which just supports my view of not spending a lot of money on this stuff, you know?
Also got a pack of stencils for nail art. That didn't go so well. First couple were fine, but then when I removed the built up polish, the stencil curled up and wouldn't uncurl, and it wouldn't lay flat properly to use it again. Meh. I might return it if I remember to later.
☁ I figured out something on Monday which might explain why I've been crawling up the walls- I've only used three days of vacation time. IT WASN'T EVEN ALL AT ONCE. And I never call out unless I'm dying, so there's been no sick time either. So seriously, the last proper vacation I had was last October. It is now AUGUST. Gee. That might explain a few things. On the upside, this means that having the time available to take off around Thanksgiving when Erin comes to visit is absolutely not going to be a problem. ^_^;
I was planning on taking my birthday off anyway, like I do every year. (Hey. I had to go to school almost every year because of when it falls. Too late for summer vacation EVER, too early to hit a break, snow day, or even a freaking field trip. Now that I have the option, I'm not doing anything I don't want to do on my birthday.) SO... might take a week off or something there. I'm kind of thinking I want to go somewhere, though, even if it's just for a few days (because hotels are expensive, yo). Not somewhere too terribly far, since I don't really want to deal with the plane thing if I can help it. So... maybe NYC or Lake George or Philly. Irish Fest is that weekend, but that's in Ballston Spa now. Eeew. I don't know, I have about a month and a half to think about it and do some research. Figure out if can even swing it, financially. We'll see.
☁ Pye got me thinking about old movies/shows last night. Nostalgia~ So! Here are a few things that I was thinking about!
My Little Pony: Escape from Katrina- This is actually the ONLY thing I remember seeing of MLP as a kid. Kind of strange. I don't remember the OP in the beginning, either.
Serendipity the Pink Dragon- Originally a Japanese anime, which I never realized as a kid. OH MY FREAKING GOD the dubbing is terrible (the surprised!noises Bobby makes when Serendipity hatches out of her egg sound like porn, no lie. I had to turn it off. XD), but... MY CHILDHOOD. I loved this movie as a Little Ver. :D
Aladdin and the Magic Lamp/Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp- Another anime that I didn't know was an anime at the time. More bad dubbing, but I've heard worse.
Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer- Kind of like MLP, the only thing I remember from this franchise. Once you get past the singing in the beginning, it's actually still amusing to watch.

July 21st, 2011 07:04 am☁ ( Drunken antics. Aren't I too old for this? )
Also, I know it might seem like I'm going out a lot, but that's really just because I don't post that much. XD It's every few weeks, generally. We've gone out twice since Pride weekend. So honestly, not that often. I just don't want people to be worried, you know? I swear I'm not turning into an alcoholic. ^_^;;;
☁ The fan next to my bed died. :( Which means I have to replace it, because I run hot all the time and I can't sleep properly when I'm overheated. Hence me being up at 7am. UGH.
☁ Apparently everyone at work thinks Mary and I are dating, which is funny bordering on hysterical. She's hot, yes, but I would NEVER date her and we both know it. I know her too well- she's a chronic cheater and that's something I'm completely unwilling to put up with in a relationship. Still. Funny. People continue to make up significant others for me out of my friends even in adulthood. XD
☁ There's the most god awful HP fic showing up on my flist (through a comm, not actually someone I'm friends with). The mechanics aren't TOO bad, but the mains are so blindingly OOC that it makes me want to stab things. And yet... I keep reading it as it gets posted. What the hell is wrong with me?
☁ Saw this in a store and thought it was really cool- apparently there are all different versions of it too. The one in the mall was cheaper though. Also, this pendant is totally awesome and I plan on getting one when I get my first biweekly paycheck next week. Especially since one of the stone options is Tiger's Eye. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
☁ More Suikoden stuff:
( Nevermind that there's like... two people that have any interest in this. Oh well. That's what cuts are for. XD )

I need to go to bed- I have to at least make an attempt at doing laundry when I get up, since I've failed to do it now. Whoops. I should probably respond to comments tomorrow too before I forget like I usually do. XD
Edit: RARGH. Cutting is finally working again, but the whole thing has a white background that I most definitely did not add. WHY DO YOU HATE ME, DW? WHYYYYYYYY?
Edit 2: Fixed. *stabs at DW* STOP FUCKING WITH MY HTML, GOD DAMN IT.

May 3rd, 2011 04:10 pm☁ Is it just me or is LJ being really super slow today?
☁ I was remixed for Remix Madness. TWICE. They are also both better than the original fics, which is both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. So. We have Natural (The 'People Put Their Mouths There?!' Remix) and Dignity, or Lack Thereof (The Everybody Loses Remix). Both are awesome. I sadly didn't write anything for it because I've been trying to BG and failing as it is, so. Heh. ^_^;;;
☁ A word of advice: don't be an asshole to the person developing your pictures. There was this guy yesterday that insisted on using the hour machine even though he wanted his prints ZOMGRITENAO, as opposed to the instant machine that I was trying to steer him to- and then had a cow because I kept emphasizing HOUR MACHINE. "But you can do them in ten minutes!" Um, it depends on how many pictures you've got, size, and the orders that are in front of you (because obviously if I have 500 pictures that are printing for someone else, you're gonna be waiting a while. Doesn't matter if you 'only have one.' Nothing I can do about that.) And, yes, how much of a dick you are to me. If you're a gigantic asshole? You better believe I'm going to make you wait the whole hour even if you have one 4 inch print (takes about five minutes if there's nothing else in queue). DO NOT FUCK WITH ME.
He kept arguing with me about how long HE thought it should take. So guess who got to wait the whole god damned hour for his 20-something pictures? >D
(I'd like to point out here that it is well within my right to tell him the extra time. Part of my job is time management and making sure that things are done when I tell the customer that they'll be done. Expecting him to wait an hour for prints when he used the machine that is clearly labeled as a "one hour" machine is certainly not unreasonable- and in fact if I had reason, like the previous 500 print example, I could've pushed it back further. If he hadn't been an asshole, I probably would've told him 20 minutes. Getting pics printed and packaged takes extra time when it's just me, myself, and I manning the entire front store. ^_^;;; But then, since he WAS a dick, he probably would've had a cow about the 20 minutes, too.)
☁ Got invited to a walking/running 5k in June that's part of the local Pride thing. I haven't decided whether I'm going to go or not. On one hand, it would be cool, especially since I didn't end up doing the April 5k. On the other hand, I'd have to get up at 6:30am at the absolute latest to take the bus, and that STILL wouldn't get me to registration on time (it's the earliest bus, btw). I don't think I have to be there exactly at 8 though. Or I'd have to call a cab and spend god knows how much for a ride downtown. I don't know. I have a couple of weeks to decide, registration is due at the end of the month.
The parade and PrideFest are the following day... I've always wanted to go and have never been able to because I always find out about the dates too late to ask for it off... I don't know how comfortable I am going to all of that by myself though. It's not like I can beg Erin to go with me. :/ But I dunno, I still want to. It's kind of pathetic that I've never been. And at least that way I don't have to worry about losing anybody and I can take my time doing whatever I feel like. I think my biggest concern is getting lost- I have a TERRIBLE sense of direction. I could probably get lost in a paper bag. But... I could probably just print off a map and the bus schedules I would need. Worst case scenario, I have my cell phone and I call a cab to go home. Right? Could be fun. I'm actually kind of reminded of a LOLcat pic here. ^_^;;;
☁ Watching Shuffle, which a coworker keeps suggesting to me. I'm four episodes into it. It's... pretty much a typical harem type anime? The main guy is kind of a dick and I'm really trying to figure out why in hell he's got all these girls in love with him... but again, that's typical of that genre. It has its moments, though. I also watched a few episodes of the new My Little Pony show for reasons I have yet to figure out. It is, frighteningly enough, not completely terrible. O_o So we shall see.
Now. Off to make the lasagna I've been putting off for weeks because I'm lazy, WRITE, clean, at some point check whatever homework I've accumulated while I haven't been paying attention to it (ugh, this online thing is SO not working for me so far), watch some more stuff, and maybe go for a walk later if I'm feeling up to that. Since I really need to start doing that again. Oh, and I need to go to the store because apparently the second bag of broccoli I bought for previously mentioned lasagna has conveniently disappeared. And apparently the tomato sauce as well. *GROWL* Salady things probably wouldn't hurt either. Mmm. Leaves. :3

A Bunch of Random Stuff
March 20th, 2011 11:44 pm☁ Random stupid question to the flist: What's the difference between a crossover and a fusion? *headtilts* I've seen people refer to one or the other exclusively, but I've never been able to get a solid answer as to what exactly the difference is.
☁ I have some of the best friends EVER. Seriously, I love you guys, you're awesome. I'm so lucky. ♥
☁ Kelly's boyfriend and his parents got her a Kindle for her birthday. I am unreasonably jealous. XD I told her I'd pull some books together for her out of my collection, but I'd have to convert most of them, so we'll see how that goes. ^_^;;; On the upside, this will give me a chance to play with it before I purchase one for myself. Eventually. When I've earned it. :3
☁ Speaking of Kelly's birthday... my baby sister is freaking 25. HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN? O_o
☁ I think I might FINALLY be losing in my chest. My bras are fitting weirdly again, mostly in the cup area. I'm kind of afraid to get measured though, because they NEVER give me good news. Maybe the next time I go get my hair cut. Possibly.
☁ I was reading something in a magazine at work today about how a lot of people have a vitamin D deficiency and don't know it- and how it can cause tiredness and lack of energy. It said that 100% of overweight women have NO vitamin D left in their system by the time March rolls around. Hmmmmmm. That could explain why I've been feeling so crappy and exhausted the last couple of months? Worth a shot, right? Apparently 2,000 IU is recommended for adults, but 5,000 IU if you're overweight (because fat sucks up vitamin D and so reduces how much your body actually gets to begin with, oh joy), and most people don't get anywhere close to that. When the store brand vitamins go on sale at work, I'll probably pick some up. Try it for a few months and see if I feel any better- the article said it can take 1-3 months before you start seeing a change. I mean god, at this point it can't hurt.
☁ Also learned today about supplements: Studies apparently suggest that Omega 3's could be as good as anti-depressants for some people. Hrm. Something else to look into potentially. God, I'm getting old. I'm already taking a multi-vitamin and cinnamon (supposed to assist weight loss and metabolism), though the cinnamon a lot more reliably than the multi, but still. Oh, and I try to remember to take Magnesium during my period because a doctor told Stef that the whole "my stomach rebels against everything I eat" thing during that time of the month could be a deficiency there, but most of the time I forget (so I have yet to figure out if it actually works or not). Edit: I forgot about the fiber gummies. Yes, I'm old and take extra fiber. My stomach is and always has been a finicky bitch, okay? XD Now we're talking about adding MORE vitamins to that. God. Can we backtrack a few years when I never even gave this stuff a second thought? ......on the other hand, I was also about 45 pounds heavier. Never mind. ^_^;;;
Possibly.
