The mentality of "our tragedy was worse than your tragedy" is awful. The obsession with figuring out the reason why only seems to give the event more notoriety instead of actually helping to prevent the next one. The tragedy itself is awful, but the response afterward can sometimes be almost as awful to me. I tend to avoid reading too much of it.
