yeah i think the way they colored them in the anime made them look way more like freckles too. but yeah that's why i like the version of them being acne/acne scars. b/c yes. and b/c i have epic acne and acne scars so it's also a thing of like, i never see characters in things with that and it was shockingly refreshing to imagine HEY HERE IS A CHARACTER WITH SKIN KINDA LIKE MINE???
well things def change in their relationship very significantly haha. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT SHIP THEM but yes it def changes. there is a lot of character and relationship development and their relationship dynamic later becomes much "healthier" (for lack of a better word haha). i enjoy there relationship over the whole period b/c i really like the issues and exploring those but yes if you're someone who wants to ship ppl who've ~worked out~ those issues i think you'll be pleased w/ where their relationship goes l8r on. some of this starts in s2 but then it really picks up w/ their dynamic developing subsequently in the manga.
haha my headcanon for tajima/mihashi vs waya/shindou is opposite haha, i feel like tajima/mihashi are way more likely to sex each other up. XD (ok i guess this is not exactly OPPOSITE since they are still sexing each other up but u know what i mean lol.) but yes my headcanon of tajima/mihashi is still casual. i think they would be bff handjob and maybe blowjob buddies. tajima is so protective and territorial over mihashi (there's a line in the manga about how he rides mihashi home to his house after practice all the time even tho his house is far away from tajima's, b/c tajima is ~surveying his territory~), plus they canonically share porn and discuss sexual fantasies haha, so i def see that comfortable bff vibe + taking care of mihashi vibe + porn sharing + tajima's easy-going-ness easily leading to jerking off mihashi after he's gotten a boner from looking at some porn mag with tajima some day or w/e haha. or in other words, THINGS ON THE LIST OF OOFURI FICS I HAVE TO WRITE THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN WORKING ON IN AGES OOPS XD XD
idk about crying in the actual competitive go world and stuff haha but re: irl high school baseball i can address this a bit, where some of it i think comes from the massively overhyped emotional energy and performative nature of koushien. like obvsly one part of it (and any type of sports tournament) is like, you pour all your time and emotional energy into something like this, of course it's exhausting and devestating when you lose. i don't find it weird or surprising or like, a cultural difference at all. of course if you spend 361 days a year practicing and playing baseball, and this is literally all you do, eat/sleep/breathe trying to get to koushien and win at koushien (as is the case in terms of practice load for the big powerhouse schools that go), it is going to feel like your life is over and all the energy has been sapped out of you when you lose, especially if it's your last chance and you're just done. i've also read essays about how like, koushien ~specifically~ gets amped up in public consciousness so there's this certain extra emotional hysteria tinging everything. ppl really go ttly crazy over it. and the public also WANTS to see teenage boys who have lost devastated and crying and digging in the dirt, and i'm sure for some of the boys involved that becomes part of it, you're swept up in this emotional hysteria that permeates everything and it's like, WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO BUT CRY WHILE YOU'RE SCOOPING ALL YOUR DIRT INTO YOUR LITTLE BAG?? it's your whole high school life and it's over. anywho, lol, teenagers crying haha, RELEVANT 2 MY INTERESTS.
eta: and also the stakes for koushien are way higher than like, probably most of what you're going to see in high school baseball in the u.s., b/c i don't ~think~ single-elimination tournaments are really such a thing over here. while ALL the big ones for high-schoolers in japan are single elim. which is interesting and really does not make sense for baseball as a sport. like koushien as it exists is really p silly and not logical. but that's why it's so gr8 b/c it's just this ridic operatic heightened emotional soap opera instead haha.
