verloren1983: (AkiHika Snow Cuddle)
☁ Math is going VERY well. I'm shocked and not really sure how that's happening, but hey, I'll take it. :D

☁ I've actually been using the Netflix thing way more than I would've ever expected. Go figure. I might keep this after all- it's pretty nifty. ^_^ Also, on that note, I watched The Secret of Kells last week and really loved it (so gorgeous and fun and unique!), and I've recently gotten into watching Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, since I'd never actually seen it before. As much as certain things about the show are problematic... fuck it, it's fun, and a lot of the "victims" are just so so sweet.

☁ My birthday was Wednesday. I had classes, but it's the lightest day of the week and I didn't have any tests, so at least there's that. Stef picked me up from school, we went to Denny's for an early dinner (smothered friiiiiiiies), killed some time, and then went to go see the new Percy Jackson movie. Which, by the way, was a TON of fun even if there were some things (particularly with casting) that bothered me. It's a good time, and that's the whole point. Totally worth it.

☁ My body at least decided to wait until the next morning to be like, "oh yeah, you're sick now." Bleh. I probably should've known it was coming- I hadn't felt 100% for several days before that. When I get winded walking from home to the bus stop- I mean, I'm out of shape, but that's something I do ALL THE TIME- there's something wrong and that probably should've been a huge hint. XD So yeah, I woke up Thursday feeling like I'd gotten hit by a train. -_- I'd love to say that I feel better today, but the truth is, I don't. XD

☁ I had something started for BG, but with feeling like absolute crap, I chose to sleep instead of finish it before the deadline. Kinda sucks, but priorities. I haven't actually read any fic yet, but I will. At some point. Or something. <_<

☁ So the plan has been to stay home for the most part, relax, catch up on some zzz's and animes and gay fashion shows... oh yeah, and I guess there's probably some homework I should do. It's especially disappointing that I feel like crap because there was a festival going on downtown yesterday that I really wanted to go to, but I just wasn't up to it. I do have to go out today, though- I need food and laundry and I'm almost out of medicine. :/

☁ I'm seriously considering doing the Couch to 5k thing- after I get rid of this cold, of course, though I may just work on extra walking in the meantime, I dunno.

Aaaand now I've been up for ages and haven't managed to do anything really. Whoops. XD

19. What do you collect?
Uh, DVD's, books, games, stuff like that. Nothing terribly interesting there.

- May or may not be considering signing up for a gym near my house. It's right there, and there's no contract, it's a month to month thing, and it's $10 a month. I don't know if I'll actually go, though? But I need to do SOMETHING, and it's seriously right there, and the hours are very accommodating. Hmm. :/

- Couldn't sleep last night until way late (believe me, I tried)... but I woke up at 10, which is a vast improvement from what it's been lately. Tomorrow's goal is 8! :D

- Watched "Mirror, Mirror" today. I'd heard it was awful, but I thought it was fun. Some interesting twists, and they made it clear that you weren't supposed to take it seriously. My biggest complaint would actually be Julia Roberts, who half the time tried to affect a terrible British accent and half the time slipped, which brought it right out of character for me. Bleh. If she couldn't pull off a decent accent at least most of the time, she should've just stuck with the regular one, jeez. But anyway. It was pretty decent anyway.

18. The meaning behind your blog name
I have this as a line in the sticky note on both journals, but whatever. So. This was around... senior year of high school or maybe the year after that? So I was 18 or 19, and trying to figure out a new username that my family didn't know. I know this is going to shock you all, but when I was a teenager I was an angst bunny. XD And being the angst bunny that I was, I took one of my most prominent feelings at the time- that I was lost- and put it into a translator to see what came up. I decided that the Dutch "verloren" sounded the coolest, so that was my new username (I discovered later that it also means the same in German). I've often had to add some version of my birth year to it because usually just verloren is taken.

Honestly? I've thought about changing it. I really have. But for one thing, it's too much work to change my username or get a new account EVERYWHERE, and also... this is the name everyone knows. I half suspect that even if I changed it, everyone would still call me "Ver" anyway. So then the point is what, exactly? XD

☁ Watched ParaNorman today. I wasn't really expecting to like it, but it was cute. ^_^

☁ The 1am thing yesterday didn't happen- I'm hoping for today- but it was in the interest of a good cause, hopefully. I uh, kind of realized yesterday that I have NO online presence as a writer, at least nothing that's semi-professional (and by semi-professional, I mean not fanfic or a personal journal like this, at least. My standards are not terribly high for "semi-professional." XD). So. I figured that I should probably work on that. It can't HURT, at any rate. I apparently made a Wordpress account at some point, so I used that to make a new blog and put up a post on it. Here we go. Mainly it's going to be video game reviews, I think, and gaming topics in general, because that's a pretty reliable source of material. And because my dream job basically involves me wearing jeans and a t-shirt to work and getting paid to play games and write about them. XD Not that there aren't a million gaming blogs already, BUT this will be a kind of online sample that I can use. Probably. If I don't stop poking at the writing, anyway. I'm hoping for a once a week schedule, but we'll see. I think by now we all know how things with me and planning go. XD

verloren1983: (Huh)
Okay, I did not forget about posting this time, I swear. I just got distracted because Kelly wanted directions, but she was looking at me like I had five heads when I gave them to her. So I ended up having to draw her a map with arrows and a stick person and ridiculousness and bleh. Have I ever mentioned I suck at drawing?

Basically I've spent the day vegging. I did go out and get kitty food earlier, and I made an updated NaBloPoMo icon and wrote a teeny bit, but that's really the only productive thing I've done. Tomorrow I need to actually like... do work. XD

Interesting things:
-Apparently there are talks of a Boy Meets World sequel featuring Cory and Topanga's daughter. I don't know how to feel about this yet. :/
-Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour tonight! I would love to say that it means an extra hour of sleep, but it probably means I'll be up at 7:30am instead of 8:30am like usual on weekends. XD
-So while I was vegging, I watched my first Studio Ghibli film- because apparently not having seen any is some kind of crime against humanity or something like that. Which was... Howl's Moving Castle. Honestly? It wasn't horrible or anything, but it did confuse the hell out of me at some points. Like why do they keep messing with Sophie's age? Isn't she cursed to be old? Why does it keep changing? MAKE UP YOUR FREAKING MIND. Also, I'm really not clear on what the point was of leaving the castle and letting it fall apart if they were just going to go back inside and have Cal move it again. What the hell? Sooooo I would try another movie, but I dunno, this didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Alright, that's enough for the time being. Tomorrow! \o
verloren1983: (Aww Crap)
☁ Alright, guys, last call for holiday cards. Not sure they're going to arrive on time as it is. If you want one, the post is... two or three back I think, I'm too lazy to find it right now. XD

☁ Left work early last night- around 7:30 as opposed to the usual 10. The cramp gods were apparently displeased with me or something. I was in A LOT of pain. x_x Still uncomfortable actually, but not anywhere NEAR as bad. The boss may or may not be pissed, but I pretty much never leave early, so he can bite me.

Okay, so if anybody has a hotmail account- I got a phishing scam the other day. It's pretty obvious, I could tell ON MY PHONE that it was a scam and that's bare bones, but I figured I'd pass it on, since it's apparently making the rounds. Always good to be aware of these things. ^_^

Finished No. 6 finally. It wasn't ZOMGTERRIBLE- I've definitely seen worse- but it was too rushed and pretty much fell apart at the end. It felt like it was trying to do too much in too little time, and so it didn't properly explain anything. Including some O_o inducing Shion OOC in episode 10. A serious WTF. I don't know, it was more disappointing than rageface for me. It could have been a really good series had they not squished it into 11 episodes and actually done something with all of those balls they were juggling. They let far too many drop.

☁ Rented Larry Crowne from redbox. Reaction: Meh. I mean, Tom Hanks is a fantastic actor, but this was all over the place. It was like the movie couldn't decide what it wanted to do and so it did a little bit of everything... and not well. It's not a BAD movie, just a mediocre one. Worth the $1.20 rent, in any case. Probably would've been pissed had I gone to the theater.

☁ I've been posting  few things a day ish on AO3, because I've been trying spread it out so I'm not obnoxious. Well... I took a look at the main Hikago page. Guess who's responsible for most of what's on there? -_-;;; Whoops. Guess I'm still being annoying despite my best intentions, at least in Hikago fandom. Though I guess at least I'm not flooding the recent submissions page.

I got Catherine in the mail from Gamefly yesterday. It's an exercise in extreme frustration. I HATE THIS GAME WITH THE FIRE OF A THOUSAND SUNS. I would rather go back to Persona 4, and that's freaking saying something. Seriously, it's a block moving puzzle with some plot mixed in between. Note that I'm not terribly good at that sort of thing. It doesn't help that right from the getgo, they're pretty condescending- going "Great, you survived!" and "Don't die!" Seriously, game? I know I'm not supposed to die, though that doesn't keep me from doing it. THANKS FOR THE TIP. *rage* This probably pisses me off way more than it should, but eh. I put up with this for about three hours before finally giving up, and that's MORE than enough. Kind of interesting, though: I -knew- I knew a couple of the voice actors, so I looked it up- Vincent, the main character, is also Yuri in Tales of Vesperia and Snowe in FF XIII. The "mysterious voice" in the confessional is a busy one- Yosuke in Persona 4, Kyle in Suikoden V, Timothy in Time Hollow, and Luke/Asch in Tales of the Abyss. Phew! Might look for a playthrough on Youtube or something. The plot seems somewhat interesting, I just wish the block pushing thing wasn't the center of the game. PASS.
verloren1983: (Plot Bunnies)
☁ Note to self: Edy's Slow Churned Light in the Caramel Delight isn't as good as Haagen Dazs' Dulce de Leche- but it's an acceptable substitute. Less calories for more, too- the Dulce de Leche is 290 for 4 oz, whereas the Caramel Delight is 190 for 5.8 oz. Sweet deal!

☁ Saw Tangled- it was cute, standard Disney fare, but it wasn't AMAZING!!! like I'd heard it was. A little disappointing on that score. For sheer entertainment value, I'd still rather watch the (somewhat) older stuff. Give me Mulan, Pocahantas, Hercules, The Lion King, Lilo and Stitch. (*cough* Historical issues aside for some of that <_< ). Disney does their best work when breaking their "helpless princess" mold. I just wish they'd do it more often.

...maybe I'm just getting old, I thought Princess and the Frog was "meh" too. XDDD

☁ Went to Juicy Burger with my sister for the first time on Wednesday. I've been hearing for FOREVER that they were ZOMGSOGOOD. I'll give credit where it's due, they make a mean chicken sandwich- which is grilled, by the way. They don't put mayo on it unless you ask. Plus it has two big slices of tomato and a bunch of lettuce. The worst thing there is the bun, so I can't feel terrible about it. SO GOOD. The fries, however, left a lot to be desired. Very greasy and they definitely could've been cooked a bit longer. Probably won't get those again. I don't mind splurging on fries sometimes- I love me some french fries- but they should at least be worth it, damn. XP

☁ Been listening to this song pretty much on repeat since yesterday... but I'm not going to tell you guys what it is, because it's pinging me a bit for the EVIL BG BUNNY and I don't want to make myself even more obvious than I probably would be if I end up including something with that. If I submit it for BG. Ehehe. ^_^;;;

Also if I end up doing some kind of weird Mulan/Hikago crossover thing at some point, I'm totally blaming my playlist. Just saying. >(
verloren1983: (AkiHika Snow Cuddle)
1. Haven't posted in a while, but work is killing me. Seriously. I haven't gotten out anywhere close to on time the last three days, and yesterday I didn't leave until 12:30. That's TWO AND A HALF HOURS late. Yeeeeeah. Oh, and then I had the Assistant Manager (who is a complete moron) lecturing me IN FRONT OF A CUSTOMER yesterday about how I needed to be ringing while I was helping people with their picture stuff. It's like... you seriously want me to just walk away from people constantly to ring? It's less than a fucking week before Christmas. As it was, I had a woman bitch at me for a good five minutes today because we're out of the 5x7 greeting card envelopes, so she got the 6x8 ones. I'm not even kidding. Look, it's two inches, and you get the damn envelopes for free anyway. Take them and run. God. And this idiot assistant thinks I have nothing better to do than to sit at the register and ring all day? Fuck.

IS CHRISTMAS OVER YET?

2. Holiday cards went out Wednesday, so those should be to people soon if they're not already. Except Fei, because I sent them super duper late this year and she may or may not get it on time. Sadness. Also I got Ai's and Shan's cards, thanks you guys! <3

3. I've decided that I'm going to try to watch as many movies off of the "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" list. I know I'll get bored with it quickly, but maybe I can at least knock off some of those movies that people always gape at me for when they discover I've never seen them *cough*GoneWiththeWind*cough*. So we'll see. I actually watched two yesterday- there are some in Youtube's movie section, and the first two on the list are about ten minutes each.

A Trip to the Moon
- Cracky and kind of amusing because of that. It actually has effects too, even if they're cheesy as hell. A little bit too long, though, I was definitely getting bored by the end.
The Great Train Robbery- Most random music EVER. It seriously made no sense with what was going on. Also I thought that there were two robbers instead of four for the longest time because they're all dressed the same and you can't see anyone's faces. Boo.

Overall, nothing particularly memorable. I think the coolest thing is that they're from 1902 and 1903, respectively, and they're on YOUTUBE. Movies that are over 100 years old, and I can sit on my laptop and watch them on the INTERNET. Just. Wow. I spent a good portion of The Great Train Robbery trying to wrap my brain around that. XD

At the moment, though, I'm mostly trying to finally finish off The L Word. I saw the first two seasons originally and that was it, so...yeah. I started all over because it's been too long, and I'm in the middle of season two. Not bad for starting this a few days ago. ^_^

4. Just something interesting: I took a little quiz called "What tattoo describes your personality". I got "Koi fish- You have a lot of courage, the ability to attain high goals, and overcoming life's difficulties. So don't let anyone hold you back."

...huh.
verloren1983: (All About Me)
It's been a while again. Hmpf. As it is, I'm sitting on the bus going from Toronto to Syracuse and don't really have a lot to do at the moment, so I figured I'd try to do some sort of update.

Obviously, since I'm on my way back to the States, I already went to go see Aki. It was fun. :D I slept way too much, but hey. It's a vacation. We also took a trip to Toronto which we left entirely too late for, so we didn't get to do some of the stuff we'd intended to do. Whoops. Also saw two movies over the course of the trip: The Lovely Bones first (kind of confusing in parts, mostly depressing, not a bad movie but then I haven't read the book), and then Leap Year (so predictable I could've told you a lot of the lines before they were said, but amusing enough and not bad for a chick flick).

It started off being a disaster, though. The bus trip up went fine, but my destination was a University campus... which would've been fine except the driver dropped everyone off at the completely wrong part of campus and I had no idea where I was. Oh, and there was no payphone. Cue Ver wandering around campus for 45 minutes looking for Aki or a cab or a payphone or SOMETHING, and by then it was almost 2am. Finally I did find a phone and got myself to Aki's place, but it was a fairly traumatic experience. Note to self, next time... have a campus map.

Also the new Greyhound buses are pretty nice and there is WiFi and electrical outlets. SCORE! Speaking of internet and things, I've decided that if bringing the laptop is going to be standard practice when I do these trips, I'm going to HAVE to get a netbook. It's too much of a pain in the ass to lug this around. it doesn't seem that heavy but it is when traveling with it, plus the size makes it awkward to put in my carryon.

This trip was the first time I actually didn't lose money on the exchange- it ended up just about even. O_o I didn't get a chance to change the rest of it back to USD, but that's okay- not like I won't be going back. I'm thinking of it this way... it's money toward my trip fund that I can't spend. :D I haven't counted, but I think it's around 300-400... probably a bit less than half of what I went up there with. I didn't spend a lot this time. I did, however, get a cute bento box and some cool looking chopsticks plus a case for those. And I got an R4 for my DS which is the most awesome thing EVER.

I should probably finish this up, since I have to take some time putting my laptop away and we'll be going through customs in a bit. I'll see you guys later!
verloren1983: (Tiger)
1. ...I just had to show my sister how to delete one's temporary files. Which means she hasn't been doing it all along. O_o Well damn. That would certainly contribute to the issues my computer has.

Also. Need to remember to back up Ochibi soon. Alphonse hasn't come out of his box since I got him and copied the entire contents of Ochibi onto him (which was the beginning of August, apparently.) O_o I will... most likely have to do a complete copy again. Which will take forever. Over 335GB worth of stuff, whut? <_<

2. I've broken the 1k mark for the bg fic. It's mostly pointless rambling, mind, but whatever. 1k is 1k, right? ^_^;;;

3. Cleaning off my desk is always something of an experience. The good news? I just found $25. The bad news? It's in Canadian. *pouts* I know it's there for a reason, but it's hard to remember that when I need the money, god damn it. (And actually, I should have another 20 around here somewhere...)

4. Just watched Eternal Summer. I'm... a little mixed on it, to be honest. It was well done, don't get me wrong, but the passing of time was sometimes confusing, and the ending wasn't what I'd hoped for. Well. It was and it wasn't. I can't really explain it without spoiling the movie for people that haven't seen it. ^_^;;;

However, I will say this- the guy that played Jonathan is WAY too freaking adorable. I just wanted to snuggle him throughout the movie. XD

5. Gakuen Alice: 6 episodes in, and it's still... really weird. I started watching it because it sounded like crack... turns out that the cute mopey boy is voiced by Paku Romi (when I told Aki, she was like, "Of course, he's cute and mopey."), which doesn't hurt either. I have to keep remembering that they're elementary school kids, though, because god, the slash. XD Both of the male and female variety. Honestly, could they make the Hotaru/Mikan and Natsume/Luca ANY MORE OBVIOUS? The hell, they're ten year old kids! *flails at self* Okay, so it's not really that bad since it's not like I want smut or anything (eew), but still. Guh.

6. *_* It is supposed to be GORGEOUS the rest of the week. Methinks I will go out tomorrow and get my hair cut. It needs it, badly. If I feel like it and if I get out early enough to bother. ^_^;;; Also need to make an eye appointment soon so I can catch the end of my insurance year. I need the appointment anyway- I haven't gone in over a year, and it doesn't seem like I'm seeing quite as well all of a sudden. Might need a higher prescription on my lenses.

.....okay, I'm going to quit being boring now. ^_^;;; After 5am and I'm rambling mindlessly, it's time for bed!

verloren1983: (Darkness)
I'll catch up on the flist and everything in a second. I just got home a few minutes ago and my head hurts wicked bad, so I'm not all that gung-ho about doing much of anything at the moment.

I got talked into going to see the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight, which is why I'm only now getting home. Of course, it didn't help that they had technical difficulties and there was nothing until about 12:30. By the time the movie actually started, it was 12:45. Guh. Needless to say, we had a theater full of people and a bunch of them were MUTINOUS, so that portion of the night's entertainment? Not so fun. The movie itself, though? Very good. I was actually surprised at how good. Heath Ledger was... completely unrecognizable, which really just proves how good of an actor he was. If I hadn't already known it was him, I never would've guessed, and it was totally amazing in a really sick way. Because... yeah, the role was... completely fucked up. Worth it? Oh yeah. ^_^

Came home to a letter from a collection agency. Apparently there was yet another bill from the doctors office when I went earlier this year- this one I never remember seeing, and it's a little bit short of $40. So all in all, the visit to the doctor cost me over triple what it would've cost to go to urgent care. *sigh*

I should write. But... I'm thinking I'm too tired to concentrate, and I don't have Akichan making me stay up this time... so I think I'll go to bed and just get up semi early. And make sure that I write. That's the important part. XDDD

Ahhhh, I feel better now. I just checked up on the journal of someone who I bought doujin from (Phoenix Wright, yay! <3)... it's been almost a month and I hadn't heard anything, so I was starting to get a bit concerned... apparently there was a delay but they should be coming. Woot! ^_^

Yeah. Okay. Bed now. Writing later. Byeee~
