Ooooor, have another media post because I fail. XD
★ First thing's first- by the way, if you did this on Tumblr or don't have a 3DS, feel free to ignore this. XD I have a new 3DS friend code. (Long story short, I'm an idiot and left my 3DS on a bus and someone else took it, along with the Pokemon game that was in it, so I replaced the system, ungh. Still working on replacing the game. Luckily Nintendo has a promo for a free one, but it's a download and those take FOREVER on public wifi.) If you want to add it, feel free! (2423-3967-2356) I’d like yours also, even if I had it before, because I don’t have it anymore. XD I’ll add you as soon as I can (might be a few days, just as a heads up). <3
★ Persona 4 Arena came in the mail from Gamefly and I've poked at story mode a bit. I'm not sure I would buy it, though? I fucking love Kanji, he's great, but being that I'm an unrepentant button masher when it comes to fighting games, this game is actually really unexpectedly hard. I've barely done anything with it, but I should probably send it back before I forget about it. XD
★ I started listening to Welcome to Night Vale a few weeks ago. It's something easy I can do when I don't feel like staring at my 3DS screen first thing in the morning, because I don't always. It's alright. I'm not fangirling over it or anything, but I suppose it's reasonably entertaining. *shrug* I'm not particularly attached to it one way or the other, really. My favorite parts are when Cecil breaks his radio reporter character and actually shows some of his personality, but that's me. I'm currently two episodes behind, but I'll probably keep listening to it because... well, it's reasonably entertaining.
★ Alright, so I finished the first season of Oofuri. Thoughts for Krim:
-I was nervous after Krim told me that most of the series is one game, but actually? It was fine. Don't ask me to explain why that's okay, but I get irritated if other games last more than two or three episodes. I have absolutely no idea. XD I'm just grateful that I wasn't climbing up the walls.
-Tajima and Izumi are so cute with their freckles! <3 I actually for a while kept mixing them up at bat because of this until I realized that Izumi's are on his cheeks and Tajima's are on his nose. Anyway. They are both adorable, though Tajima is still totally my favorite.
-Luckily, Mihashi is annoying me much less now and my fury has calmed down to an exasperated amusement. Part of this is the realization that he wouldn't be nearly so bad if Abe wasn't screaming at him half the time. I would probably be freaking out too. XD (Abe, stop being a socially inept dick, please.)
-Because I said I'd mention it- the second OP is okay. I'm not in love with it, but I don't hate it, either. *shrug*
-Holy shit, totally shipping Tajima and that redheaded kid from Tousei that was desperately fanboying him (Nakazawa, apparently). So fucking adorable. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THERE'S FIC.
-As a side note on shipping, I would also not be adverse to Kanou/Mihashi. :P
-During one particular scene which I won't give away the details of, I know it was supposed to be an emotional kind of thing, but all I could think about was THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL. Seriously, I had Tom Hanks in my head the entire time. I don't think that was the intention. Oops. XD
-This may be showing some cultural ignorance on my part, but hey, you don't learn if you don't ask, right? ...does anybody know why the Tousei band kept playing "Yankee Doodle"? Is it a different song over there (like how "God Save the Queen" and "My Country, Tis of Thee" have the same melody but are completely different), or is it just something that's kind of leftover from the US, since baseball originated here? I'm curious and would like to know. :P
★ On Kuroko: Murasakibara, I want to like you because I like your voice actor (Isumi!), but you are SUCH AN ASSHOLE. Gah. >_<
Speaking of, I've been thinking a lot about voices the last several episodes of Kuroko. It's funny how it's gotten to a point where I've seen enough anime that given a character, there's a fairly decent chance that I know at least one other thing that their VA has done. It helps that for Kuroko at least, a lot of the actors have worked together on other things. XD Aomine and Alex are obviously Atobe and Fuji from Prince of Tennis, respectively, and there are several that are in Fairy Tail or Silver Spoon or other things. Generally I'm pretty decent at recognizing voices (though it may take me a bit- I think it was the second episode Alex was in that I realized she was Fuji), but the one surprise, aside from Murasakibara which I already mentioned? Kise. Kise, who is also Hachiken in Silver Spoon, and also Takizawa in Eden of the East. O_O I never in a million years would've guessed. Kise's VA is seriously talented. :D (Although, of course now that I know this, it seems obvious, so maybe I was just being a derp?)
Alright, I have to go deal with club stuff, but I'll hopefully write again, uh, soonish. Maybe a RL update before the end of the semester? It would be nice, right? ^_^;;;;;;;

Date: March 17th, 2014 09:50 pm (UTC)From:I've only read scanlations of Oofuri (up through Chapter 93 I think) and 7 episodes of the anime so I don't know how everything translates from the manga to the anime, but I personally felt like baseball matches taking several chapters and anime episodes respectively made sense since in a really intense game, every play matters a whole lot. Unlike in Kuroko no Basuke where the flow of time in matches there sometimes feels quite arbitrary.
Also, Murasakibara really is an asshole but his VA is perfect :D

Yes, Murasakibara's VA is great. He's done so many different characters that I love and makes them different- he really works as Murasakibara. He's so talented! <3

Date: March 17th, 2014 10:27 pm (UTC)From:Kuroko says that outside of basketball they get along pretty well, which is one of the reasons why I'm willing to give him a benefit of doubt and became more interested in him - cause that's some pretty drastic whiplash otherwise. Also he's pretty smart even if he chooses to act lazy, I'd imagine it grates when people treat him like a dumb oaf.
These are two fics that sort of condense my ~feels~ in building sympathy on him.

Supernatural or One Direction, or if your like me and keep building up your work load)- those video game fandoms you mentioned on tumblr are generally pretty quiet. -Just in case you decide your interested later on!)

Date: March 18th, 2014 07:29 pm (UTC)From:Tajima is great. I like him in games, but I love him the best outside of games. He's just... such a silly teenage boy, I love it. And Izumi is so cute I almost can't stand it. I don't know why the freckles get to me so much, but they do.

Date: March 19th, 2014 04:53 am (UTC)From:i'm glad the tousei game worked for you haha. the point made above about the plays actually mattering might have been part of it haha. ANYWAY FOR WHATEVER REASON, I'M GLAD. ;)
i've heard somewhere and seen fanarts in the japanese side of the fandom that seem to support it, that izumi's face-marks were originally intended to be acne or acne scars. but from things i've found on japanese fansites it seems that was the original intention but higuchi replied to a reader question sometime and said that she things interpreting them as freckles is valid too. the way they ended up coloring them most of the time in the anime made them seem more like freckles i guess. i originally thought they were freckles as well but after discovering they were originally supposed to be acne marks i really like that so it's my headcanon for him. but yeah since the author says either way is legit ppl can go either way they want with it. (i just wish more of the english side of the fandom liked the acne version b/c it seems like everyone else prefers freckles and i wish there were more arts/fics of him with acne heh.)
yeah abe and mihashi are not so well suited for each other personality-wise, lol. their issues feed on each other and it makes them both worse much of the time.
GLAD YOU LIKED THE SECOND OP BETTER HOORAY haha. i'm just glad you don't hate it since it's my fave. XD
ppl def ship tajima/riou, yes. i haven't seen fic of it tho i have seen fanart of it. there are a few cute comics on pixiv and stuff!
kanou/mihashi is more on the popular side. there are some fics, tho none i particularly love. there are some gr8 fanarts and doujins tho.
hahaha it's ok, I THINK "THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL" all the time haha. it's extra hilarious for japanese high school baseball b/c there is SO MUCH crying in it lol.
various songs catch on in japan for use as cheer songs during koushien. some of them become particularly popular and are mainstays of the event, so you'll hear a bunch of th same songs over and over from various schools. schools also have their own preferences for songs they tend to play. i got really psyched during a few games of koushien this past summer b/c one school's band kept playing the fight song from my alma mater haha. so anyway, yeah, they just use all kinds of songs. not b/c of their association with a given country or w/e. i heard the cutey honey theme song a bunch. also AIM AND HIT is probably my favorite one haha, they play it a LOT. the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51ix-ZidQog
i like yonaga tsubasa a lot, mihashi's VA from oofuri. he also voices nagisa in free! and komano-kun in chihayafuru. oh and i guess he's manami in yowamushi pedal haha. anyway i think he does a good job of giving all his characters v different feeling voices. like if i pay attention i can tell it is him, but the way he inflects things and his energy/emotion for each character is super different based on who he's playing and i like that.

Date: March 19th, 2014 05:35 pm (UTC)From:Agreed on the Abe/Mihashi dynamic, and it's why unless something changes significantly, I can't see myself shipping them. They really bring out the worst in each other, and Abe is dangerously close to "emotionally abusive" territory in certain ways, and I just... no. I can't deal with that. If I have to ship for this series, it would be the two I mentioned, or I could also see Tajima/Mihashi working, though I kind of want to see them stay platonic BFF's. They MIGHT fool around a little at some point, but nothing serious, and I kind of doubt it.. (Apparently, in my head Tajima/Mihashi has roughly the same romantic dynamic as Waya/Hikaru, except Waya and Hikaru are WAY more likely to sex each other up.)
I dunno, I think it's part of a whole thing where it's more acceptable for Japanese boys to be emotional in certain situations, so to us it's weird, but to them it's not that surprising and maybe even expected. I'm still getting used to that, tbh. It shocked the hell out of me when I first watched Hikago, after that second tournament against Kaio and everybody was crying. O_O
Songs- hmm, interesting. I'm glad I asked, because I really was curious. <3
VA's- You know, I never would've connected Mihashi and Nagisa in my head. It's kind of amazing when they can do that, make each character they do unique. Those kinds of VA's are so talented and put so much love into their work. I can't help but admire it.

Date: March 19th, 2014 09:43 pm (UTC)From:well things def change in their relationship very significantly haha. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT SHIP THEM but yes it def changes. there is a lot of character and relationship development and their relationship dynamic later becomes much "healthier" (for lack of a better word haha). i enjoy there relationship over the whole period b/c i really like the issues and exploring those but yes if you're someone who wants to ship ppl who've ~worked out~ those issues i think you'll be pleased w/ where their relationship goes l8r on. some of this starts in s2 but then it really picks up w/ their dynamic developing subsequently in the manga.
haha my headcanon for tajima/mihashi vs waya/shindou is opposite haha, i feel like tajima/mihashi are way more likely to sex each other up. XD (ok i guess this is not exactly OPPOSITE since they are still sexing each other up but u know what i mean lol.) but yes my headcanon of tajima/mihashi is still casual. i think they would be bff handjob and maybe blowjob buddies. tajima is so protective and territorial over mihashi (there's a line in the manga about how he rides mihashi home to his house after practice all the time even tho his house is far away from tajima's, b/c tajima is ~surveying his territory~), plus they canonically share porn and discuss sexual fantasies haha, so i def see that comfortable bff vibe + taking care of mihashi vibe + porn sharing + tajima's easy-going-ness easily leading to jerking off mihashi after he's gotten a boner from looking at some porn mag with tajima some day or w/e haha. or in other words, THINGS ON THE LIST OF OOFURI FICS I HAVE TO WRITE THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN WORKING ON IN AGES OOPS XD XD
idk about crying in the actual competitive go world and stuff haha but re: irl high school baseball i can address this a bit, where some of it i think comes from the massively overhyped emotional energy and performative nature of koushien. like obvsly one part of it (and any type of sports tournament) is like, you pour all your time and emotional energy into something like this, of course it's exhausting and devestating when you lose. i don't find it weird or surprising or like, a cultural difference at all. of course if you spend 361 days a year practicing and playing baseball, and this is literally all you do, eat/sleep/breathe trying to get to koushien and win at koushien (as is the case in terms of practice load for the big powerhouse schools that go), it is going to feel like your life is over and all the energy has been sapped out of you when you lose, especially if it's your last chance and you're just done. i've also read essays about how like, koushien ~specifically~ gets amped up in public consciousness so there's this certain extra emotional hysteria tinging everything. ppl really go ttly crazy over it. and the public also WANTS to see teenage boys who have lost devastated and crying and digging in the dirt, and i'm sure for some of the boys involved that becomes part of it, you're swept up in this emotional hysteria that permeates everything and it's like, WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO BUT CRY WHILE YOU'RE SCOOPING ALL YOUR DIRT INTO YOUR LITTLE BAG?? it's your whole high school life and it's over. anywho, lol, teenagers crying haha, RELEVANT 2 MY INTERESTS.
eta: and also the stakes for koushien are way higher than like, probably most of what you're going to see in high school baseball in the u.s., b/c i don't ~think~ single-elimination tournaments are really such a thing over here. while ALL the big ones for high-schoolers in japan are single elim. which is interesting and really does not make sense for baseball as a sport. like koushien as it exists is really p silly and not logical. but that's why it's so gr8 b/c it's just this ridic operatic heightened emotional soap opera instead haha.

Date: March 20th, 2014 02:11 am (UTC)From:I don't need everything worked out, but they need to be at least dealing with those issues or else it's a bundle of DNW for me. Sounds like I need to read the manga when I'm done with season 2. :3
Wait, wait, "canonically share porn and discuss sexual fantasies?" WHAT? O_O Is that in the anime, or is it manga exclusive? adsjlahklds. Also I NEED THAT FIC, ZOMG.
Re: Emotional stuff- Yeah, that makes sense. High school baseball in Japan is srs bzns. XD

Date: March 20th, 2014 03:38 am (UTC)From:yes you must DEF read the manga after the anime. for that relationship stuff and also for the "canonically share porn and discuss sexual fantasies" part. b/c yes. it's canon. :D :D :D
(the saddest thing about the oofuri manga is that in one of the author rambling sections in one of the volume omake, higuchi wrote about how she also planned out this whole scene during the 1st training camp where the dudes compared dick size. like, had the dialogue written and everything. but then she didn't put it in. BUT STILL MENTIONED THIS IN THAT OMAKE B/C SHE'S A COCKTEASE. altho there is still another part l8r that involves comparing and discussing dick size, so don't worry, there's at least SOME of that. it just doesn't involve as many characters as it could have lol)
